This item is a revolution to scrapbooking, hammerless eyelet setting. Gone are the days where you use the single eyelet punch, the eyelet setter and a hammer to set your eyelets. Just saying that is making me think of the noise BANG BANG BANG, to solve that picture the Silent Setter, what bliss. VIVA LA REVOLUTION.
The item is very easy to use and most age groups agree to this. I find that the ergonomic shaped handle fits perfectly into the palm of your hand which makes it easy to grip. This is a benefit for all, including those that might have muscle problems in their hands and arms.
How easy is this item to use? Very easy.
You choose the size hole you need for the eyelet and put the whole punch into the handle. Line it up on your craft item push and twist. You now have your hole for your eyelet.
To set the eyelet all you have to do is push the eyelet into the hole you have just made, making sure it is the right way up, as once it is set you can not take it out. (I have done this a few times.). Turn the paper over so the back of the eyelet is visible. Take the setter which now holds the punch piece to fit your eyelet, centre the punch into the eyelet then push and twist.
There you have it. Silent set eyelets, what more could a scrapper ask for.
During my time using this item I have only ever used it to punch through one piece of cardstock at a time. I haven’t been able to use it on thicker cardstock or chipboard. It comes down to a trial and error. If you can punch a hole then you are in business.
The Silent Setter is harder to work on the steel made eyelets like Making Memories, but the soft aluminum eyelets it’s a treat. If you have the harder steel eyelets I find unscrewing the handle and lightly hitting it with a hammer works the same.
If and when your punches become blunt I have taken a piece of sandpaper to them and rubbed them around to make sharp again. This has worked for me.
I have been using the Silent Setter now for 18mths and I won’t be looking back. The cost is very reasonable for an item of this quality. Priced around US $25 I think it is a very reasonable. The Provo Craft Silent Setter is stainless steal, comes in a compact zip pouch and has 3 interchangeable heads for setting different sizes. It also has a small mat and 50 free eyelets. What more can you ask for.
Rating out of 10, a 10 for sure.
Rating out of 10 from my husband – a 9. He finds the handle isn’t big enough for a man’s grip. In his words “awkward to grip”
